Woman II Woman’s 2025 Impact: A Year of Courage, Advocacy & Unshakeable Hope

In 2025, Woman II Woman stepped boldly into a new season of advocacy, accountability, and compassion-driven leadership. What began as a mission to uplift incarcerated women grew into a powerful movement—one that demanded transparency, centered survivor voices, and challenged systems that routinely overlook the safety and dignity of women behind bars.

This year, we intensified our commitment to documenting concerns, exposing policy failures, and pushing for real oversight in women’s correctional settings. Through every challenge, one thing remained constant: our belief that every woman—inside or outside prison walls—deserves protection, dignity, and a future she can trust.

A Legislative Stand That Made History

Our most courageous step came through sponsoring SB 311 (Senator Grove), a first-of-its-kind bill designed to protect incarcerated biological women while still accommodating transgender individuals. Though the bill was ultimately tabled, its impact was undeniable.

Women’s voices—often silenced or dismissed—reached the Capitol.

Amie and Tee delivered unforgettable testimony reminding lawmakers that “one person’s rights cannot come at the expense of another’s.” Letters from women inside prisons were delivered directly to legislators. And even as large organizations spoke in opposition, we stood unwavering in our truth: the lived experiences of incarcerated women matter.

SB 311 was not an ending. It was a beginning.

It marked the start of a broader movement demanding fairness, humanity, and real solutions grounded in safety and compassion.

Strengthening Community Inside the Walls

Beyond advocacy, Woman II Woman continued providing services that nurture hope and healing:

  • The WAY Newsletter kept women connected, informed, and uplifted.

  • Faith-based journal prompts offered a gentle invitation for reflection, inner healing, and spiritual reconnection.

  • Individualized support services—including resource guidance, support letters, and reentry preparation—met women exactly where they are, with care and dignity.

Growing Reach & Amplifying Voices

Our message is being heard far and wide. In 2025, our Executive Director, Amie Ichikawa, appeared in multiple media interviews and published numerous articles, bringing national attention to human rights concerns in women’s prisons. Our community also grew to 125+ newsletter recipients, each one connected through a shared desire for justice and change.
